Point your camera at the card in the drawer.

Cursive, butter stains, Grandma’s own correction in red pen. Stoveside reads all of it and builds the recipe: each ingredient on a row that runs to the first step that uses it, and anything you can do at the same time side by side.

Found it online instead? Share the link from Safari or any other app. You get the recipe without the life story above it.

The butter goes in at step two. You can see it from across the kitchen.

One step at a time, with flour on your hands.

Swipe to the next step. Each one gets the whole screen, and the next one peeks in from the edge so you know what’s coming.

When a step says “9 minutes,” tap and a timer starts. Every timer is an egg in its own color with a name under it, so the pasta and the pork never get mixed up. The screen stays awake the whole time a recipe is open, and the timers keep ringing with the phone locked.

A cookbook the whole family writes.

Start the Hale Family Cookbook and text the link to your sister. Anyone with Stoveside can join and add what they cook. Give Aunt Mary Jane’s pecan pie a chef’s hat. Your stars stay yours.

A recipe someone shares with you stays on your phone, even if they leave the book. Pick a cover while you’re at it: red check, ticking, enamelware, sunburst or plaid.

Pick the week. Get one list.

Choose what you’re cooking, or tap Mix it up and let Stoveside choose. It adds every recipe into one shopping list: two eggs for the pancakes and three for the carbonara come out as one line, 5 eggs.

Check things off in the store, or send the list to whoever’s going.
